Dr. Uppal is a practicing internal medicine physician and healthcare policy researcher trained at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has published in leading journals including NEJM, JAMA, and Health Affairs, and his research has informed federal healthcare legislation. He holds an MD from Harvard Medical School (Presidential Scholar) and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
As Chief Commercial Officer at PHM, Tommy brings over 20 years of strategic leadership in driving revenue, expanding market share, and building high-performing commercial teams. With a strong background in sales, marketing, business development, and customer success, he plays a pivotal role in aligning the company’s commercial strategy with broader business objectives.
Tommy brings decades of experience in developing public and private health and welfare programs that deliver value to employees and retirees while mitigating risk and effectively managing overall program costs for employers. He’s worked closely with many hospital systems and physician groups in the development and deployment of Accountable Care Organizations, Clinically Integrated Networks, and Shared Savings contracts across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid programs. Tommy also has extensive experience working with large employers supporting the deployment of appropriate healthcare strategies that drive value for both employees and employers alike.
Prior to joining PHM, Tommy served as Vice President and Consulting Actuary for Aon’s Active Health Exchange where he was responsible for supporting the business’ overall strategy and growth. At PHM, Tommy leads an impressive growth trajectory by developing demand generation strategies for businesses and for individuals. In this role, he works closely with channel partners to drive market awareness and growth across both lines of business and is responsible for taking our solutions to market.
He received his Bachelor of Science from Middle Tennessee State University, and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and an Enrolled Actuary.
Chris Swanker, Senior Vice President, leads MetLife’s Group Supplemental Health Products, which include Dental, Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity insurance offerings. His responsibilities include product strategy, network development, and delivery of the customer experience, as well as oversight for Group Benefits Contracts and Compliance.
Throughout his more than 25-year career leading various group benefits businesses, Chris developed the strategies necessary to expand into adjacent markets, build new capabilities, and enter new lines of business.
Chris received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and has achieved his LIMRA Life Institute Fellow (LLIF) through the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a member of the National Board of Directors of the Dental Lifeline Network and is prior Board Member and Chairman of the Board for the National Association of Dental Plans (NADP).
Michelle Barr is a Client Experience Director at Origin, bringing more than two decades of experience leading client success and HR teams across global enterprise organisations, including senior roles at Forj, Modern Hire and ADP. Her background spanning both client success and hands-on HR leadership gives her deep, first-hand insight into the challenges facing HR and benefits teams. At Origin, she partners with global companies to help them take control of their global benefits and turn fragmented data into clear, actionable intelligence.
Becky Kinder is Senior Director of Product Strategy of Health and Benefits at Inspira Financial, where she leads product strategy for the company’s consumer-directed healthcare (CDH) accounts, including HSAs, FSAs, HRAs, commuter benefits, and lifestyle spending accounts. With 19 years in the CDH industry, Becky has spent her career translating complex benefits administration into products and strategies that actually work for employers and the people they cover. At Inspira, she works closely with market analysis, member experience, and research teams to bridge the gap between how people actually use their benefits and how those benefits should be designed.
